Miso is a Japanese condiment that is traditionally made from fermented soybeans (although other beans might be used, these days). It is usually bought in the form of a thick paste that you can then use in various recipes. One of the most common ways that you may have come across it is in a simple miso soup. Miso is usually very salty and has a deep umami flavor. It comes in a rainbow of colors from white and red to yellow and brown.
